PD Policy, COABE Announcement
Revised PD Policy
KYAE has made several revisions to the 2008-09 Professional Development Policy. Please click here to read the entire PD policy.
Highlights include:
- The PD calendar is now from June 1 through May 31. PD activities completed in June 2009 will count toward the 2009-10 year.
- Instructors, instructor aides and program directors working fewer than 20 hours per week are not required to complete a PD plan, but they are required to earn 2 PDUs as determined by their supervisor.
- Beginning August 1, all new instructors, instructor aides and program directors, regardless of the number of hours worked, must complete KYAE 200: Orientation to Adult Education online course during the first 30 days of employment.
- New clerks involved in data entry must attend AERIN Training for New Users and complete the NRS Data Flow online course.
- To emphasize KYAE’s goal of job-embedded professional development that focuses on student outcomes, all instructors who work 20 hours or more per week are required to complete one PD activity from a list as part of their required 8 PDUs. (See policy for list of activities.)
- Up to $500 in PD funds per semester per staff member may be used for college tuition in courses related to their job assignment.
- No more than two persons per county program may attend the same out-of-state conference at one time. An individual is allowed to use KYAE PD funds to attend only one out-of-state conference per year.
KYAE supports national adult education conference
KYAE will provide significant support for the annual Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) conference that will be in Louisville April 19-22, 2009, by funding the early bird registration fee of $270 for up to 500 Kentucky adult educators. KYAE encourages adult educators to take advantage of the quality professional development to be provided at this national conference. Programs may use professional development funds to cover travel costs associated with the conference.
More information on the agenda, topics and registration will be forthcoming.
