College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards

College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards, U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education.  The full report is available by clicking here.

CCR Standards for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Literacy with Resources

CCR Standards for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Literacy (510K PDF)These standards appear as Section 4 of the 2013 final report of the Office of Vocational and Adult Education’s Promoting College and Career Ready Standards in Adult Education, an effort to provide states with a set of CCR standards aligned to Common Core State Standards.

CCR Standards Appendix B -- Connections Between Standards (286K PDF):  This appendix presents the connections that occur between and among the standards across the domains and may be useful when developing coherent instructional units.  The ELA connections are presented on pages 96 and 97 followed by the Mathematics connections.

CCR Standards Appendix D -- Understanding Text Complexity (228K PDF):  This appendix presents information on text complexity – what it is, why it is important, and how to determine it – based on the explanation presented in Appendix A of the CCSS.

What's in and What's Out (182K PDF):  This chart from Susan Pimentel lists the instructional shifts needed to teach the CCR Standards for English Language Arts.  A PowerPoint with more details for each of the ten points can be found by clicking here.

Common Core State (CCS) Standards Appendix B -- Text Exemplars and Sample Performance Tasks (2,847K PDF):  These text samples are Appendix B of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.  Adult educators will appreciate that the texts of particular interest to adults are indicated by the symbol: align box

CCS Standards Appendix C -- Samples of Student Writings (729K PDF):  These writing samples exhibit the qualities of exemplary performance at a specific grade in relation to a specific set of criteria for a particular type of writing (narrative, informative/explanatory, or argument).

The following tools are adapted from the Office of Vocational and Adult Education’s Standards-in-Action materials, and are populated with the CCR Standards for English/Language Arts and Literacy. A User Guide is included which explains the formatting of the templates.

Templates for Unpacking the CCR Standards for ELA:  The templates offer adult educators a tool for better understanding the demands of the standards.

Templates for Evaluating Resources for CCR Standards for ELA Alignment:  These templates offer adult educators a tool for rating the degree of alignment between the CCRS and instructional materials.

Templates for Resources Aligned to the CCR Standards for ELA:  This tool offers adult educators the ability to keep a repository of well-aligned resources to use when designing lessons for the standards.

Templates for Identifying Lead Standards from the CCR Standards for ELA:  These templates are not populated with level-specific standards, but instead correspond directly to the anchor standard.  Adult educators will find this tool valuable when designing instructional units.

CCR Standards for Mathematics with Resources

CCR Standards for Mathematics (479K PDF):  These standards appear as Section 5 of the 2013 final report of the Office of Vocational and Adult Education’s Promoting College and Career Ready Standards in Adult Education, an effort to provide states with a set of CCR standards aligned to Common Core State Standards.  The eight Mathematical Practices are included on pages 48-50.

CCR Standards Appendix B -- Connection Between Standards (286K PDF):  This appendix presents the connections that occur between and among the ELA standards across the domains followed by the Mathematics connections occurring in Levels D and E with comments on those connections.  The ELA connections are presented on pages 96 and 97 followed by the Mathematics connections pages 98-103.  This appendix can be quite useful for designing coherent units of instruction.

The following tools are adapted from the Office of Vocational and Adult Education’s Standards-in-Action materials, and are populated with the CCR Standards for Mathematics. A User Guide is included which explains the formatting of the templates.

Templates for Unpacking the CCR Standards for Mathematics:  These unpacking templates are organized by levels.   This tool offers adult educators the ability to keep a repository of well-aligned resources to use when designing lessons for the standards.

Templates for Evaluating Resources for CCR Standards for Mathematics Alignment:  These templates offer adult educators a tool for rating the degree of alignment between the CCRS and instructional materials.

Templates for Resources Aligned to the CCR Standards for Mathematics:  These aligning templates are organized by levels.   This tool offers adult educators the ability to keep a repository of well-aligned resources to use when designing lessons for the standards.

Templates for Identifying Lead Standards from the CCR Standards for Mathematics:  These identifying lead standards templates are organized by levels.   Adult educators will find this tool valuable when designing instructional units.
