The Learning for Life Champion Award in Region 3 was presented to the Louisville Free Public Library. During the past 15 years, a partnership between the Jefferson County Adult Education Program and the Louisville Free Public Library has helped build a stronger, better-educated workforce in Louisville. Among the many ways the library has contributed to adult education are the following: 1) The library developed and maintains a collection of educational materials for low-level readers and English as a second language adults. 2) Library facilities are available rent-free to Jefferson County Adult Education for meetings, trainings, recruitment and classes. 3) In 2007, the library provided $39,000 for a program to increase GED attainment. The program included a radio advertising campaign and free GED testing for library-card holders. 4) The library is also funding materials for four GED Express Classes for approximately 100 students.
